Garland Libraries Extend Internet Access with Mobile Hotspots

Need Internet access? The Garland Library is now offering mobile hotspots, devices that use wireless cellular technology, to provide users with Internet access for their tablets, computers, gaming consoles and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The hotspots are portable and allow users to connect up to 15 devices with unlimited data at no charge to the user. The Garland Library is providing the devices as a way to increase Internet access among the city’s residents. Initially, the library will offer 50 mobile hotspots, with a select number available at each library location.

  • Garland residents, ages 18 and older with library accounts in good standing, may check out one hotspot per adult library card.
  • Hotspots will check out for one week and may be placed on hold, though the library will not be able to guarantee availability for a specific time or date.
  • Citizens may renew the hotspots if no one else is waiting.
  • Staff ask that hotspots be returned to the library’s Circulation Desk and not via the exterior materials returns in order to prevent damage.
  • Borrowers agree to return hotspots in the same condition received.
  • Borrowers must reimburse the library for lost, damaged, or stolen equipment.
  • Service to overdue hotspots will be discontinued and the units made unusable after 48 hours.
  • Hotspots not returned within seven days after the due date will be assumed lost, and the borrower charged.
  • For more information about borrowing mobile hotspots, call 972-205-2501.
